Ask us about Botox!
Are you shy to express yourself because of those apparent wrinkles and fine lines that appear when you smile? Cosmetic dentists and specialists have just the solution to transform your appearance with the help of a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that is made from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum and commonly known as Botox®.
What is Botox®?
Botox®, a neurotoxin, is derived from botulinum, which is an organism found in the environment. It is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. Botox® is also known to be an effective treatment for migraines, muscle and bowel disorders, etc. These neurotoxins are chemically designed to target the nervous system, thereby signaling neurons to communicate effectively.
Botox® As A Muscle Relaxant
Today, the purified protein can be used as a temporary muscle relaxant. In the earlier days, Botox® was popularly used to treat chronic pain and over-stressed muscles in the areas of the jaw joints and other facial regions. But today, Botox® and fillers also have esthetic applications. Such applications not only allow cosmetic specialists but also dentists to help change the look of the patient by making them look younger. Dentists can now easily target the muscles of the patient's face, mouth, and neck.
Preparation for Botox® Procedure
Being a non-surgical, in-office treatment, it requires only minimal preparation. The cosmetic dentist would evaluate the patient's medical history, examine for allergies, or medical conditions before starting the procedure.
What can Botox® treat?
Botox® can treat several cosmetic aspects of your face. The purified protein can manage fine line appearances near the lips, forehead, eyes, wrinkles, areas between the eyebrows, etc. It is also an FDA approved treatment for many other medical conditions such as migraines, sweating, bladder irritation, etc.
What is the function behind Botox®?
Botox® helps to enhance your appearance and bring back youthfulness cosmetically. Being a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure, it doesn't involve administering anesthesia or performing incisions. Treating crow's feet would include administering 3-5 Botox® injections at targetted locations in between the eyebrows. The procedure does not borrow much time. It also allows the patient to resume back to their day-to-day activities after the procedure.
Do I need to be careful after my procedure?
Patients needn't be much cautious after the procedure. Although, your cosmetic specialist/dentist may advise you to avoid applying any extra pressure to the treated area. Sometimes, any pressure felt against the treated area may negatively affect the results. As mentioned earlier, the patient can resume back to their daily lives after the procedure. It is also essential to understand that specific procedures would have realistic expectations. Hence it is advised to stay patient for the results to show up after the procedure.
